Remember that generally only "init" would write both the header and data.  
Otherwise the header would be read and the data written.  That's why every 
sector has two separate leader/sync/data/check groups with a small gap in 
between.

I put a couple of test programs from the H17 service manual in the tape 
software area.  One checks the on-board write-protectable memory and the 
other is for checking/adjusting rotational speed.  At ideal speed, there 
should be a "200" displayed in the memory location on the front panel.
