[sebhc] file naming conventions

I've been kicking file naming conventions around with Steven for a
couple of days - the specific topic is the use of "." and "_" to
increase clarity in file names.

By strict ARPA protocol, filenames are limited to true alphanumeric
characters and the hyphen "-". I'm definitely opposed to the use of the
dot (".") since it's caught me out more than once going from one system
to another, but what about the underscore?

I agree with Steven that it definitely aids readability, but what about
the downside? Can anyone come up with a good reason why we shouldn't use
it?

Jack
